PRIMs (Plug Ready Interrupter modules) are
optical, non-contact position sensors that plug
directly into standardized 10-pin IDC ribbon cable
connectors. Position is sensed when an opaque part
of an object in motion passes through the PRIMs gap
and interrupts its infrared light beam. When the
beam is interrupted, the resulting "in position" or
"position limit" indication is read on a TTL
compatible signal line (external resistor
required).
PRIMs incorporate this sensor, sturdy mounting
tabs and its cable connector plug into a low cost,
easy to use package.
- NO Soldering
- NO Circuit Boards
- NO Individual Wire Crimping (at the sensor
mounting location)
Many manufacturers are still spending a lot of
time and money developing small custom circuit
boards whose only purpose is to provide mounting
and a connector for interrupter module sensors.
Other similar sensors require wire stripping and
crimping of individual leads. They mount one to a
cable and they still cost three times as much as a
PRIM.
PRIMS, by contrast, mate directly with one of
the most common, readily available, low cost and
easy to use cabling systems.
PRIM cabling is further simplified by their
ability to connect two to a cable. These cables are
standard 10 conductor ribbon cables with three
standard 10-pin sockets. One connector connects to
each PRIM and the third connects to the interface
circuitry.
Both PRIMs on the cable are identical and there
are no settings to cause confusion.
PRIMs were designed for easy connection by a
range of users from the hobbyist to the busy
engineer. These devices maximize versatility with
"plug and go" operation.
